Every year some crazy fashion trends are introduced by designers, and they leave a mark, so much so that we don’t want them out of fashion. With marriages being the new fashion stage to showcase the latest trends, traditional wears have reached a new level altogether, bringing around mammoth trends in 2018. Our favorite stars getting married, the Bollywood brides and diva got a lot of trends rolling too. With so many fashion trends, here are few that we’d like to keep around.
Belted Lehenga
The latest blogs are talking about it, they are considered as sassiest and hottest wedding fashion in trend till date. The belted sarees and lehengas add a little bit more to fashion and complimenting the dressing sense. The concept of belts is old. Previously used as Kamarband, the belts now days are more fashionable and a fusion of western and Indian designs. Brides, models, and designers have embraced this new trend as it gives a new dimension to the traditional look altogether. All the designers have incorporated the concept in their latest, and you would have seen most designers posting it be it Sabyasachi, Anita Dongre, or any other you follow. Here are a few reasons why one should opt for the belted lehengas:
- Unlike the regular lehenga, the belt gives a modern look to the outfit breaking the monotony. The fusion of western and Indian trend by adding a belt to the lehenga adds a little flare to the outfit.
- The only hassle with the lehenga sometimes is the dupatta that has a mind of its own. It tends to slip away when it pleases, but a belt tucks your dupatta intact and makes the entire outfit hassle-free and easy. The belt doesn’t just become an accessory but equipment to fit the draping well.
- The wedding season is an invitation to traditional bulky clothes. The bulky lehenga generally hides the curves of the body. The belt is worn on the midriff along with lehenga breaking the look into two and giving equal importance to both the upper and lower torso and enhancing the curves.
Grey Lehenga
The silverwork or the grey cloth or color has been in trend the previous season even though it is an unconventional color, which is why a lot of brides have used the lehenga of this color as their D-Day outfits or in some other function. Or the bridesmaids or sister of the bride is seen wearing the heavy trending outfit. Sagarika Ghatge wore the mirror illusion on Grey Organza Lehenga on her wedding, making the trend more visible, which caught attention quickly. One can wear the color or get the same color embroidery or silver work. All seem to be in trend currently and are here for a long halt.
Pastel Shades
One of the breathtaking sights was when Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma dropped their wedding pictures like it was nothing. Anushka looked the epitome of subtlety and elegance in the pastel bridal outfit she wore in her daytime wedding. The unconventional pastel might have been considered dull for the brides. Instead, it turned the magic and made them look like princesses. Exploring that area, we got so many pastel lehengas in terms of color combination and works that now everyone is seen wearing one at the wedding. A wedding is incomplete with flowers, right? But now, most weddings are incomplete without floral lehengas either. The hot trend of 2018, is embraced by so many that, it is not just worn at weddings but other major festivals too. Like house warming, or garb, etc. The designers have experimented much with floral designs mixing and matching unusual color combinations and experimenting around with big and small prints and different kinds of works on them. Deepika was seen wearing the trendy lehenga in one of her reception parties making people go gaga over the outfit.
Trails Lehenga
The trails are one of the highlights of the year with Priyanka Chopra Jonas wearing the most beautiful trails for her wedding, even though it wasn’t for the Indian ceremony. But at the same time, she did use her red dupatta covering her face like a veil, which also was used as a trail. The tails have been around for some time now as it gives richness and royal feels. The brides often like to wear them for their reception or functions like sangeet and feel like a princess, and why not? It is definitely their day.
Ruffles Lehenga
In this era of mix and match and fusion, it is only fair to have ruffles on traditional outfits as well. If used right, ruffles look great on the lehengas with the perfect combination of colors or contrast. A simple ruffle dupatta can also be used to elevate the lehenga. One can wear ruffles with pastel or vibrant colors and incorporate ruffles in whatever manner they want. A ruffle dupatta, or ruffle at the bottom or on the lehenga skirt as patterns.
Love Story Lehenga
In this era where everything is personalized, why cant the wedding outfits be? Well, they were and still can be. Love story lehengas got a lot of attention from brides and otherwise. The brides got their story embroidered on the lehenga, making it extra special for their special day. Designers, listen to their stories and incorporate the turning points in the relationship into intricate work all over the lehenga.
Traditional red Lehenga
Remember Priyanka Chopra’s entire red lehenga with work and heavy jewelry? That look went viral, and Sabyasachi’s design was recognized by every bride or their bridesmaid. The entire red took, as it never can be out of trend. The Indian brides have been associated with red color for the longest time. The red for brides can never be out of fashion or trend, but there can be a variation of the same. Priyanka’s lehenga has red embroidery all over it to keep it monotone, and that was the birth of a new trend.
White Lehenga
While wearing white on the wedding day was considered bad omen in most Indian weddings, there were Gujurati weddings, which made the bride wear white and red outfits. Picking up from there, and of course western culture white gowns, the white lehengas are a no more bad omen but a sign of purity and serenity. The peaceful white is adopted by brides all over India as it became a trend and we would like it so stay because it looks beautiful.
Silver Work Lehenga
With Isha Ambani wearing a gorgeous pink lehenga and silver work all over on her sangeet, the silver work has made a comeback in the best way possible. The work is recognized from old times when zari work was done on silk sarees, and it was not just considered elegant but royal. Silver has made a comeback in terms of embroidery and sequence work as well, but most certainly the all-over intricate work is mind-blowing and welcomed.
Feather Work Lehenga
The uber-chic trend of the season would be incorporating fur and feathers in wedding day outfits. Manish Malhotra, Ridhi Mehra, and many other such designers have adopted this trend and have made the stunning outfits with feathers either on lehenga, tassels of dupatta or sleeves, or they are seen wearing a cropped jacket with fur, giving it a unique and different look. The bride squad is seen following a similar look as well at certain weddings.
Cape sleeves Lehenga
Besides the half sleeves and full sleeves, there is another trend that was fascinating and caught everyone’s eye. The floor-touching sleeves, the extra-long sleeves or cape sleeves. Even though they seem bizarre, they are one of the hottest trends and have used as a showstopper dress concept by several designers. The cape sleeves are so long that they pretty much replace the dupatta and therefore are hassle-free for the person wearing. They do make a great sangeet or reception outfit but also are used as bridal lehenga concept, a modern 21st-century dupatta free bride.
Work All over Lehenga
The wedding day is one of the most important days for the bride and being aware of the fact that all eyes are going to be on her she wants to beat everyone to look beautiful, and that why not, it’s D-day! Some traditional trends have not fallen out and continue to be popular still today. One such trend is, work all over the lehenga. Though they become really heavy to carry with embroidery all over, they make the bride look like a queen, when paired with heavy jewelry. Something like Aishwarya’s look in Jodha-Akbar.
Off-shoulder Lehenga
The off-shoulder might not be a trend from 2018 but sure has been an ongoing trend that we stilt want to continue. If you have deep neck and stunning collar bones, the off-shoulder Choli in a lehenga can help you show them off, of course, if you aren’t afraid to. The fusion of western off-shoulder in traditional Indian wear has been one of the best so far. The designers generally use off-shoulder with all types of sleeves like full-sleeves, half-sleeves, and cape-sleeves. Another such concept would be of cold-shoulder, which has been in trend and continue to be in. The best part about these lehengas becomes the draping style since the Choli or blouse is not traditional.
Bell sleeves Lehenga
Bell Sleeves might be ancient but still works beautifully in wedding outfits as bridal and others. As the name suggests, the sleeves are in bell shape with volume at the bottom of the sleeves. It might have started as an experiment, but has resulted well with the audience. The brides who are bold enough to pull off this chic trend do it well. The trend is well-recognized, especially during summertime as loose sleeves give air to breathe, making the bride’s life a bit easier.
Unique Colours Lehenga
The fact that brides are not going for just traditional wedding colors is for their D-day is fantastic. We already mentioned the grey color, but we there have been some crazy, unusual colors picked for the wedding days for color co-ordination with the groom. Navy blues, cyan greens, golden, etc. Here a special mention for all the outlandish colors making the wedding outstanding.
Tassels work Lehenga
Every lehenga has tassels, one might think what is new about this. We aren’t talking about the tassels behind the blouse or Choli or the one on dupatta of the lehenga, but this new trend of tassels around the blouse at its bottom. It’s a perfect way to cover your stomach and flaunt it at the same time. And another great part of this outfit would be a hassle-free dupatta because it is pinned freely to shoulder to show off the tassels and look of the lehenga. Keep them rolling in 2019 too.
Paneled panache Lehenga
If you can have your love story embroidered in your lehenga, you can definitely have a piece of your mother’s or grandmother’s saree as a part of your big day for sentimental values. The paneled lehengas help you do so. The skirt of the lehenga isn’t made of just one cloth, but panels are made of several clothes or dual clothes depending on the client’s need. Red and Pink Lehenga
When say wedding there are a few colors that pop up in our head immediately, red and pink precisely being at the top. So, a lehenga with both those colors would be one of the perfect wedding outfits. A fusion with that was going to catch the eye and get popular in no time. It is a perfect outfit for bridesmaid, sister of the bride or groom, or even brides if worn with the right color combination. There are various types of brocade lehenga, saree type, with multiple Choli options, bright colors, or just plain simple lehenga. Be it any pick, a brocade lehenga will be a showstopper.
Embroidery Sleeves Lehenga
Most brides are seen wearing the concept on their engagement, but many have worn it on their D-Day as well. As simple as the name suggests, the sleeves of the Choli are full and have embroidery on it. Mostly to flaunt the look of the outfit is different from traditional lehenga. This wedding season has been velvety with velvet being everywhere. In fact, it has been a season of velvet in general. A lot of trail lehengas are made of velvet for a simple reason; it is a solid cloth and won’t tear up easily. Velvet lehengas were a winter bride concept to protect the brides from cold. But also there were a lot of cross over’s of trends to match velvet. One example of the same would be, a velvet choli paired with a printed skirt and vice-a-versa.
Peplum Lehenga
Peplum lehenga is another western concept for modern-day ladies and the bride. The element of the west is used with traditional gaga or the skirt to create the outfit. The trend caught on when Katrina Kaif was seen wearing it; a perfect person to model the outfit. The outfit is one of the finest examples of the indo-western wear but more towards the western side. With no dupatta in the outfit, it is hassle-free and comfortable. The Peplum cholis look great when stitched with silk with a little embroidery on it.
Layered Lehenga
Deepika Padukone wore a layered lehenga in Ram Leela, which was the hot news as it weighed 20 kilograms and she danced in it. Ever since the trend has stayed. Mostly worn by the sister of bride or groom or bridesmaids, the lehenga is particularly heavy. It has various visible layers in the skirt, which is paired with a choli of your choice. The layers can be contracting with solid colors or similar to each other, depending on the preference of the person wearing it. A layers skirt can also be worn with a choli and jacket without a dupatta to make the outfit comfortable.
Laced Lehenga
Lace and romance have gone hand in hand for decades in fashion until it was used as part of traditional wear, making it accessible for more people. With lace on sleeves and skirt of the lehenga, it gives the outfit more girly look and subtleness. Adding lace to lehengas was magic that created an effortless fashion trend that is embraced massively. You will see the fashion visible in a lot of high-end parties and weddings.
Front Slit Lehenga
Came in fashion a whole back, but has made its own space in people’s hearts is the front slit lehenga and no doubt has been designer’s favorite. The comfortable chic style without the dupatta trend defines the curves and has been embraced well by the crowd. Most people are seen wearing similar outwith with vibrant and pastel colors during a wedding. The choli unconventional and almost floor touching, like a kurta slit from the middle front.
There are so many trends that have come and gone. With fashion, one trend might not even go out of trend as they tend to repeat after a few years. One of the most prominent examples for the same would be the Anarkali trend. Which still lives amidst generations. Even in lehengas, there is a version of Anarkali Lehenga which serves as one piece gown like with a dupatta.
